Environmental Educator Needed



Instructor needed! Part-Time After School Matters Environmen​tal Educator


Qualifications:
*Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Botany, Biology, Education or related field
*Experience working in an outdoor environment.
*Teaching experience in an informal setting, preferably with teens (ages 14-18)
*Experience in building interactive environmental lessons and activities
*Access to computer, internet and email; working knowledge of MS Office--Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Responsibilities:
*Recruit, hire, and co-teach 30 teens (ages 14-18) in an after school apprenticeship program, at Taft High School, run by Friends of the Parks and After School Matters.
*Must be available TWTh 2:30-6:30pm for programming starting October 4 to until mid-December, 2011. Also, available for up to five recruitment days between September 15-30. Total hours contracted will be 155 over 12 weeks.
*Instruct teens in environmental education lessons, motivating them to learn about their local environment and take action to improve it.
*Develop a meaningful environmental science project with the teens.
*Assist and motivate teens in researching environmental issues, creating activities, and working towards comprehension and enjoyment of nature and environmental studies.
*Set up field trips and guest speakers to enhance teens' experiences.
*Evaluate teen and program progress, and work with other instructors and director to improve the program.
