The National Children's Study

ARTICLE FOR WEBSITE AND NEWSLETTER

The National Children's Study launches in Cook County

Have you received a letter from the National Children's Study (NCS)? If you are pregnant, or planning on becoming pregnant in the near future, please call the study at 1-866-315-7124.

The NCS is the largest longitudinal study of women and children ever to be conducted in the U.S. The primary aim of the study is to better understand how the various environmental factors children are exposed to during pregnancy and throughout childhood affect their health and development as children and young adults. The NCS is an observational study; it will not test any medications or provide any treatment. It will involve more than 100,000 children in 105 locations across the country. Greater Chicago-area families have a unique opportunity to participate in an initiative to improve the health and development of children for generations to come.

All participating families will receive compensation for time and participation. Locally, this study is being conducted by University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Northwestern University, and University of Chicago Medical Center.
